Welcome to the mandatory introduction post. I'm an officer and raidleader of the casual raiding guild Vintage on Turalyon EU. My main is a Blood elf Retribution Paladin named Kavash. I started playing World of Warcraft at the very end of Burning Crusade, and didn't start raiding untill level 80.
Ever since I started leading raids in Wrath of the Lich King I struggled to find tactics that would fit the playstyle of our guild. Not only did most of the tactics videos focus heavily on 25 man raiding, most of the time they tackled the 10man encounters decked out in best in slot 25 man gear. While things improved with the launch of Cataclysm, due to more topend guilds running 10mans, the level of tactics hasn't been always suited for Vintage.
Vintage has always been kind of unorthodox when it came to tactics. We often had fights were we wiped for nights on end on a boss, following tactics to the letter. Once we adjusted a few of the tactics, or downright threw them out, we normally had the boss down in 2, maybe 3 attempts.
While our tactics aren't textbook examples of perfection, they work for us (most of the time). It might be that these will just work for us and that we're unique snowflakes in the big World of Warcraft community. In any case, this blog will be a look at the Vintage way of raiding, topped of with some random bits about playing a paladin in a non-top end guild. Enjoy.
